THE BASICS THE BASICS THE BASICS
SO, WHAT'S YOUR NAME?
My name is Ella Jay Romero. Ella means 'torch'. My paternal grandmother's name was Ellen and my name is a variation of it in remembrance her. Jay refers to the bird. My mom claims she saw a blue jay outside of her window when she first knew she was pregnant and figured it must be a sign or my protector. She was Native American and was always interpreting things from nature. Romero means 'Pilgrim to Rome'. Normally, people just call me Ella. My mom sometimes calls me Ella Jay, or Jay Bird.
AND JUST HOW OLD ARE YOU?
I turned 17 years old on October 13th. I'm a junior at Dartmouth.
WHAT RUNS THROUGH YOUR BLOOD?
The shape-shifter's gene has been passed down my mother's side. I skipped her, but I got it.
JUST TO MAKE SURE - MALE OR FEMALE?
Last time I checked, female.
WHICH WAY DO YOU SWING?
Completely heterosexual. I've never had those kinds of feelings for another girl. Sure, I've thought that girls were pretty, but it was normally followed with jealousy. I've only chased after boys, ever since the first grade.
HOW DID YOU GET YOURSELF HERE?
My mom sent me here. We used to get along really well, but that was before my father died. We got into so many fights, and it doesn't help that I am quick tempered. My shifting began to get out of control, so my mom sent me to Dartmouth when I was 12. Since then, I've gotten my shifting under control and my mom and I get along better.
WHO DO YOU MOST LOOK LIKE, AND WHY?
People have said that I look like Christian Serratos and I think its because our heritage is so similar. She is of Mexican, Italian, and Irish descent. I am Italian, Native American, and Mexican. My mother was fully Native American. She was even born on a reservation. My father is Mexican and Italian. His family had been from Spain and migrated to Rome a long time ago. My grandpa had moved to America when he was young and married a Mexican woman who had been working with him in Arizona. And there we have my heritage.
I am 5'7" and 112 lbs. I've been told I look like a stick and my great aunt is always telling me I should eat more. Actually, a lot of people tell me that. My body shape is from my mother's side, so many people say I look like her. My hair is dark brown or black. It really depends on the lighting, but either way, its dark. It's naturally wavy and very thick. My eyes are the same dark brown/black color, although people have said that they sometimes see flecks of other color in them and her eyes will sometimes lighten to a chocolate shade of brown.
I don't really have a specific style. I can only describe it as mine. Sometimes I'll wear clothes that seem really plain, and other times I'll be seen in the latest fashion. I'm just one big variety. However, I do have a woven bracelet that was my grandma's that I wear all the time and a ring with a wolf on it. There's also a small tattoo of a golden brown wolf on my right ankle.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
I love horses, my culture, and pretty much everything that has to do with nature. I love all the seasons, but spring is my favorite because that's when all the flowers begin to bloom. However, I like to watch snow fall and I like to play in it too, even though I'm 19. I love shifting because I feel like I'm in tune with nature then. I also love to sing and I am constantly doing so. My favorite food is sushi, which seems kind of random. I hate the raw fish though, so mine normally has rice and vegetables. When it's warm out, I like to lay under the stars. I love to run. Sprints, long distance, it doesn't matter. I sometime wonder how much of it is because I'm a shifter and how much of it is because I just like it. I love to feel the earth beneath my bare feet, so I walk around without shoes when I can.
AND WHAT AREN’T YOU INTO?
I can't stand my sister. We don't get along and its been like this for awhile. I also hate cauliflower, being treated like a kid, and the destruction of nature. Rap music gets on my nerves because I can't understand it, along with loud, screeching noises. I dislike people who go out of their way to be mean to others and who think that they're all that. I hate when I lose control of my shifting because it means I lost control of myself. And I absolutely hate it when people look like they're afraid of me because my temper exploded. Really, how much harm could I do?
WHAT ARE YOU GOOD AT?
I am good at running. It's something that I've always done and I've just gotten good at. I've been told that I'm good at singing also, but I don't entirely believe it. I'm pretty good at making friends. I'm a very talkative person and not shy at all, so its easy for me to get to know people.
AND WHAT ARE YOU NOT SO GOOD AT?
I am horrible at controlling my temper. My grandma tells me its because of my shifter blood, but I think that's just an excuse to make me feel better. I also rarely listen to others because I am too stubborn and like to do things my own way. Even though I'm good at talking to people and making friends, I have problems trusting people. I always feel like they'll betray me or I'll betray them.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SECRETS?
-I hate my sister, and it's not the normal, sibling rivalry.
-Sometimes I wish that it had been my sister who had died as cancer, or that I was an only child.
WHAT ARE YOU SCARED OF MOST?
Hospitals - I am scared to death of hospitals. I hate seeing all the sick people, seeing the sad relatives, and smelling the overly clean interior. It reminds me too much of my father and it reminds me of death.
Losing my mother and grandmother - As much as we fight, I still love both of them with all of my being and if anything were to happen to them, I don't know what I would do. I already had my father taken away, and my sister and I don't speak, so they're pretty much all I have left.
IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN FIFTEEN WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
I am caring, hot-tempered, stubborn, outgoing, unique. I'm a fire ball of a girl.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SIBLINGS?
Lily Grace Romero, 22
ANY FAMILY PETS?
Tala, horse, 3, appaloosa - Normally other animals are freaked out around me (because of the shape shifter's blood), but Tala was bred on my Grandma's reservation and is used to shape shifters. She's at home with my mother and I miss her while I'm at Dartmouth.
ANY OTHER IMPORTANT RELATIVES?
Grandma Talise, 59
GIVE ME A BRIEF OUTLINE OF YOUR PAST.
I was born in Tucson, Arizona in October of 1990. We moved shortly after when we learned that my father had cancer so we could be closer to his doctors. My parents bought a horse farm because my mother had grown up around horses her whole life. My grandma moved with us because we were her closest family and she didn't want to be left alone in Tucson.
I had a pretty happy life for awhile. Dad's treatments were working and it seemed like he was getting better everyday. I helped my mother with the horses and my sister and I got along really well. That all changed when my sister turned 10. My grandma began paying more attention to her and I became jealous. I slowly began to hate my sister. I began to become an out of control child. My parents didn't know how to deal with me, so I hid in the barn most of the time while my sister received all their attention.
When I turned ten, I was given the same special treatment that my sister had. I figured out it was because my grandma was watching for signs of me being a shifter. Eventually one came and I had my grandma's undivided attention, while she taught me all about shape shifting and how to control it. My sister was jealous, and we fought until the point where we couldn't even stand to be in the same room together. I didn't mind though, because I was getting the attention I wanted.
Two years later, a tragedy struck. My father's cancer had seemed to disappear, but it struck back with terrifying force. It had spread and there was nothing doctors could do for him. They gave him a year to live, but he died two months later. My mother was a wreck and we constantly fought. My shifting was out of control. It got so bad that not even my grandma could control it and I was sent to Dartmouth.
My relationship with my mom and grandma has improved, but my sister's and mine has not. We still can't stand each other and we fight whenever one sees the other. Our quarrels have gone from attention to boys to everything in between.

SO LIVE A LITTLE, RIGHT BABIES?
AND A ROLEPLAY SAMPLE.Ella walked out into the field, enjoying the smell of fresh spring. She slipped off her shoes and curled her toes into the grass. Mud squished beneath her weight and she laughed a little. Spring just made Ella feel so...happy. Ella looked around, taking in the spring scene. She continued on her walk, wishing she could paint something like this. Of course, she didn't have the talent or the patients to do that. Instead, she decided to enjoy nature the way it was.
Ella wanted to run. Actually, she didn't want to be a human at the moment. Ella glanced around the meadow, making sure she was the only person there. After being entirely sure she was the only one there, Ella formed into a wolf. The far off birdcall she had heard earlier became clear. She tore off in the direction of the noise, howling and yipping like a puppy. She just felt so alive as a wolf!
She was so distracted that she missed it at first. There was a loud snap, like a twig cracking. It happened again, but Ella heard it this time. She tilted her head, listening, but she didn’t hear the sound again. Unfortunately, she began to get suspicious and slightly scared, so she bolted back towards her house, away from whatever was in the woods.
^^Ok, so sorry this sucks. I don’t have a ton of inspiration at the moment (I’ve been trying to focus on too many things), but I wanted to get it done. If you want me to rewrite it, I can.
